About Us: The Tale of Pandora Squared
In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, “all-gifted”.
In Sydney, Australia
Sydney is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, built around Sydney Harbour, Sydney is known in Australia as the “Harbour City”. The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are globally recognised icons. Sydney has one of the world’s most recognisable skylines and its famous harbour is commonly referred to as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world.
There are over 220 days of sun a year and around 4,470,986 people living in Sydney.
One Day out of 220
It was one of those 220 days of sun, all the tourists are burning like bacon and I was just one of around 4,470,986 people living in Sydney.
Standing on the second deck of the Manly Ferry on the way home I had been sick to my stomach all afternoon. In the same month we closed our biggest most profitable deal, Hunter Nield and I had to resign from our dotcom company. Our poor choices and relationships we had in place had been taking from us over the years bit by bit, wearing us down piece by piece.
Our profitable deal was what the relationships went after. Our fire was stolen and so much work and effort with it. If the loss of our hard work wasn’t painful enough, our investor revoked my Visa to stay in Australia.
Prometheus stole fire from heaven
As I watched one of the worlds most recognisable skylines fade from view and the brutal truth became more clear and our reality…
- We no longer have a company
- Our software is gone (final beta sitting lonely on servers that were not our own)
- We have no money (and credit cards)
- Rent is past due
- I must to leave the country (My Visa to stay in Australia canceled)
- Hunter was more pale than usual, I had lost everything even the girl.
We were living a Country & Western song.
Sydney with one of the world’s most recognisable skylines was invisible to us, replaced by primary colors fueled by emotion. In the famous harbour we saw our love, lives, hard work and passion evaporate.
Zeus took vengeance…
- We hate the VC concept
- We don’t believe the find revenue later lie
- We had been doing what others are only talking about
- We know our stuff and we love what we do.
On the second deck of the Manly Ferry on the phone and crossing the most beautiful natural harbour in the world Hunter and I vigorously debated:
What are we passionate about?
- Social software, enabling people, improving lives
How would we make money to build our vision?
- Enable and grow clients business through our passion of social media and software
What do we really want and can we be best in the world at it?
- Delivering solutions enabling business not blogging about ideas
By presenting Pandora… Squared
We agreed on our first mantra:
Getting Investment is not a Valid Business Strategy (Neither is Seeking to be purchased)
In the time it took to cross the harbour from Circular Quay to Manly…We had our first Mantra and more importantly the three guiding principles. We knew it was we succeed or suffer complete utter failure. Would I have to surrender myself to the American Consulate? Were we insane or taking the final step of faith? Deep inside we KNEW we were onto something.
So, one day out of 220, in one of the most multicultural cities in the world Kevin Leversee and Hunter Nield…two people out of the 4,470,986 in Sydney, unleashed Pandora Squared offering Hope midst the Hype of Web 2.0.
Offering Hope midst the Hype of Web 2.0.
Producing Value for our clients:
- You have given us a new paradigm on how to interact and really communicate with our customers. The invisible making visible works…we understand they (customers) are talking with or without us and you allow us the resources to communicate. Besides the software though it’s the center thing, with our customer at the center we are in a place mentally and emotionally open to the customer intimacy your technology provides.
