Zed to the Power of n is Pandora Squared

Posted by kevin Fri, 03 Mar 2006 15:05:00 GMT

Zed to the Power of n equals Pandora Squared

Most business today see themselves as transmitting a signal to an audience that listens to that signal, reads that content or consumes that product or service. Under this impression to increase the value of your audience you must increase the strength of the signal, or make more noise via advertising.

An*1= An Or If you have 20,000 subscribers * 1 conversation = 20,000 subscribers (This is Sarnoff’s Law of Broadcasting)

Don’t do the Ostrich Think about it. Everyone runs around talking about “Protecting their brand and answer this Mantra by having no feedback mechanisms for users or consumers to converse. This head-in-the-sand thinking spends millions on advertising while the users that want to talk about their experiences will find another venue.

If you don’t enable the conversations occurring in market today, someone will for you. (Hey Chaps- this doesn’t mean building bigger than Ben-Hur portals and “Destination communities keep reading)

Some businesses are embracing social software tools, they know it is important but they may not understand why. Many get upset and others ask the very important question

“How do you make money on blogging?

It is not just blogging: it is internetworking; it’s enabling, listening and participating in conversation. Internetworking (Metcalf) says that when you connect your subscribers or audience into a network that can intercommunicate the value of your network is squared. You’re making your invisible market visible.

By using tools like blogpulse, technorati, or subscribing or aggregating groups of blogs via RSS you can listen the conversations in market about your product, service, brand, political initiative, medical practices, farming innovations, new methods in AJAX, new tricks for Ruby on Rails or how IBM supports the Java Ecosystem.

(An)(An)+1 = An2+1 Or If you have 20,000 subscribers and allow them to see each other and intercommunicate the value of your network is squared plus one or Four Hundred Million and one.

(20,000)(20,000)+1= 400,000,001 (This is Metcalf’s Law of internetworking)

Reeds law of group forming networks nearly Metcalf’s law to the power of ten. We call this

Zn

(Zed to the Power of n) or Pandora Squared.

This is taking everything one step further. As my Aussie Mates say its Full-On! This isn’t some Super Size of the same bland boring thing. This is adding an entire string of garlic HEADS to the pasta sauce versus a few cloves. This isn’t making some sweet mango Salsa. This is real the deal sauce 100% minced chili peppers (I prefer a mix of Asian and jalapeno’s).

Upcoming Breakfast Bytes

Posted by Hunter Nield Mon, 23 Jan 2006 14:54:00 GMT

Pandora Squared is going to be at the next Breakfast Bytes event. For those who haven’t been before, it is an regular event run by Hill & Knowlton covering IT trends and their relation to marketing and PR.

This upcoming seminar is focused around Web 2.0 and the new internet boom. Something quite close to our hearts. Kevin has been invited to talk about social software, so expect a good dose about communities and new ways for business to communicate.

Anyone who happens to find themselves in Sydney on March 1 should try and come along. If the past seminars are any indication it should be interesting event, raising lots of stimulating questions.

2005 in Review as viewed from Downunder

Posted by kevin Sat, 31 Dec 2005 19:32:00 GMT

###I am a thirty something entrepreneur who fled the dot com crash from the SF Bay to the land of Coopers Sparkling Ale and warmer waters of the South Pacific. While I am no where near the expert on Australian Technology, (that Award must go to folks like Mark Jones of the Financial Review, and Frank Arrigo of Microsoft Australia) I thought it would be fun and interesting to throw my thoughts on 2005.###

###January:###

According to the Age, Australia closed $150AU Billion ($110US) worth of new deals in 2005.

Peoplesoft: finally lost to Oracle…

Tsunami: Australian citizens and technology companies move swiftly to help in a severe time of need. Simply the worst natural disaster in over 100 years and by February Australia led the region in help and donations. By February first 2005 just two short months after the tragedy the Australian public donated $240million to tsunami appeals. (Compared with $386million in donations overseas aid agencies received to help the poor across the world in 2003.) Australian based Asian Pacific Internet Company Owner of Malaysia.net and Indonesia.net offer online communities support for those in affected areas and raised funds for the UN and Red Cross Red Crescent relief efforts.

###February:###
The PodCast Network: Before the word Podcast was a gleam in Father iTunes eye, The Podcast Network Begins: On the 14th of February 2005, Australia’s Super Geeks co-founders Mick Stanic and Cameron Reilly started providing the podcast listening community with one central location from which to subscribe to the best content available. TPN announce a few months later a very sexy deal with Motorola.

###March:###
Web Two Point 0H! Gains popularity only it is like a personal Jesus, its something personal and special for everyone only no one can fully describe it.

Hill and Knowlton a PR agency surprise the hell out of me with Breakfast bytes, and a panel on blogging. Arguably the pivitol event for my technology network in Australia.

CeBit Australia 2005 is focused on VoIP, Broadband Switching and mobile networking technologies.

###April = Adobe month###

Not baked clay bricks, Adobe buys Flash and promises to not to make users watch the Flash intro when downloading the newest non crashing version of Acrobat.

###May:###
Blogtalk downunder: In May of 2005 Australia held its first Social Software Conference and drew international attention with speakers such as Thomas Burg • Mark Bernstein • Rebecca Blood and many other respected authorities on blogging, media and social software.

###June:### Alpha Magazine: Australia’s number one sport magazine launches and News Corporations first blog site. They spent $7 million on advertising to announce the magazine, and none of that really great advertising had the site URL or any mention of other mediums. I think it’s a really good magazine for two bucks it should be around $7.00

###July:### Linkme: A combination attempt from Andrew Banks and Sensis attempts to take linkedin head on. Previously VP of Paypal, Linkedin CEO Reid Hoffman who has closed over $15 million in VC cash isn’t too worried.

Vista: Microsoft announces Bob…oops I mean Vista the new version of Windows that won’t have a blue screen of death, in this release the screen will be pink reflecting a more open Web 2.0 type of Microsoft.

Fairfax buys local online dating site RSVP for $38.92 Million AU. Executives get first choice of talent pool…

News Corp. gives Myspace $580 Million, Tom is no longer on everyone’s friend list.

###August:### Nothing happened in this month. Really. Well, News Corp bought IGN for $650m Gamespy.com is going to become mygamepyspace.com

###September:### Newcastle Rugby fans get a really really really big screen TV.

Sony DRM: Sony stuck rootkit their version of DRM to the average consumer.

###October:### Death of Australian TV:John Doyle announces the death of Australian Television or something like that. 9MSN drops in ratings and 10 remains the leader with Big Brother and Idol.

Pandora Squared Web 2.0 and Business Consultancy launches its Sydney branch. P2 offers you everything cool and hip and like vegemite gives you a vitamin boost (Disclaimer: I co-founded the company)

China China’s amazing GDP growth is cut from 9.5% where it has remained since 2003 to a measly 8-8.5%.

###November: Melbourne longtail camp: A play on the Longtail meme innovators rush to a house in Suburban Melbourne, drink a lot of beer and pitch innovative web 1.5- Rocky Ten mash up ideas.

iPod Video Launched: It’s cool and of course no one seems to be able to get one.

Microsoft announces Live because it’s at the speed of Live, like Fox News.

###December:

Yahoo and 7 Announce huge media partnership deal. The deal even though resulting in a partnership half the size of 9MSN is a direct threat. Microsoft threatens to upgrade 7Yahoo to Windows Live.

Kazaa: Tired of playing with pre Web 1.0 media companies and their evil legal representatives in court, Kazaa decides to simply shut down access in Australia. Surprisingly the CEO of the Stephen Peach, chief executive of the Australian Record Industry Association, criticized the move he was mad at him Nemesis saying “They don’t have the right to withdraw who am I going to kick around now?

AirReview Their Second Year and explodign AirReview is the leading online resource for financial news. According to the www.aireview.com.au Macquarie announces that Online Ad Sales Revenue exceeds all other advertising mediums. PBL, NEWS and Fairfax move to increase their online real estate.

Wolf Creek: Decent horror flick released with a really bad flash site.

Kerry Packer Australian Media legend founder of PBL parent to Seek.com.au and other Australian Web Powerhouses passes away.

Pandora Squared our Awakening

Posted by kevin Thu, 20 Oct 2005 08:35:00 GMT

They say to me in their awakening, “You and the world you live in are but a grain of sand upon the infinite shore of an infinite sea.” And in my dream I say to them, “I am the infinite sea, and all worlds are but grains of sand upon my shore.” - Kahlil Gibran

Welcome to Pandora Squared. We are privately held company comprised of a tight knit, passionate group of individuals who have a deep desire to produce simple and easy to use solutions for business around the conversations that exist in market. We are experts in social software, the technologies and philosophies emergent in the Web 2.0 meme.

We love what we do! We encourage feedback and discussion, should you have any questions contact us today… info @pandora2.net.

We have a strong belief in what we call our “Switched on Values? Simply put these values are about enabling the individual with the tools and knowledge to accomplish their best ability.

What’s in it for you? How can Pandora Squared help your business with opportunity2, profit2 and agility2?

Web 2.0: It’s a school of thought… The web is transitioning from the virtual world of closed off “places? and removing its shell, the interface, its container and releasing the content, whatever it maybe. Users want to receive information when they want it for example Blogs, RSS, and Podcasting… Its agility…Agility is defined as a company whose business processes—integrated end-to-end across the company and with key partners, suppliers and customers—can respond with flexibility and speed to any customer demand, market opportunity or external threat. An Agile business has four key attributes: it is responsive, variable, focused and resilient.

How it affects your business: You…Users and their identity become personified online as their personal brand, as opposed to being an invisible part of a monolithic CRM or marketing system. Your identity as an organization and brand also become personified. This is a big deal.

…have a conversation… A powerful global conversation has begun. Through the Internet, people are discovering and inventing new ways to share relevant knowledge with blinding speed. As a direct result, markets are getting smarter—and getting smarter faster than most companies.
–Cluetrain Manifestn

…with open systems and information Users are demanding open access to your content and the ability to control when and how they receive it. With the advent of Blogs and RSS content is distributed freely around the globe. This directly affects advertising models and corporate communication policies. How many of your competitors, clients, customers and employees blog and understand social software?

We love what we do! Contact us today for your free needs analysis… info @pandorasquared.com.

Thanks!
